Meditation Is for Everyone
I was recently featured in Princeton’s US1 Newspaper: Living at one’s highest potential on a daily basis seems to be an unrealistic goal for many people. But Susan Wilk, founder of Focused Mind Dynamics and No Place Like Aum LLC, has a different perspective based on 16 years of teaching meditation. This state of being can be available to anyone through a regular practice, she says. Everyone can meditate, even those who think they can’t because they have “chatty minds.” Wilk will introduce the topic of meditation and its benefits and will share simple techniques to release stress and improve … Continue reading →
Stress in Older Adults – Meditation Helps!
Stress Affects Older Adults Although we know that stress affects people of all ages, in all walks of life, many people harbor misconceptions that the lives of young adults and older adults have little or no stress compared to other segments of our population. To the contrary, stress has significant effects on both young and old, and everyone in between. (See my blog on teen stress.) It is well known that stress can lead to serious health issues such as hypertension and increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Stress Triggers for Older Adults While many older adults find … Continue reading →
Meditation Linked to Improved Test Scores
Meditation Improves Memory We know from research studies that Meditation helps our brains function by improving memory, lengthening attention spans, and sharpening our focus and a host of other health benefits. Meditation stimulates the brain. Studies of Tibetan monks who meditate many hours a day, every day, for years, showed that their brain activity was “off the charts.” Of great interest is a study conducted at the University of California, Santa Barbara, which showed a link between Meditation and improved test scores. When it comes to tests and brain functions, we know that the longer one’s attention span, and the … Continue reading →
Meditation Helps Stressed Out Teens
Meditation is Effective Coping Mechanism for Teen Stress Although many people assume teen-age years are carefree and fun-filled, stress is a constant companion of teens. Teens report the highest level of stress during the school year, often feeling overwhelmed, sad or depressed as a result of stress. Teens’ lives include juggling hectic schedules of after-school activities, jobs, homework, and family obligations. It is no surprise that teens say they … Continue reading →

“I Hate My Job!” Meditation Helps Relieve Job Angst
Meditation helps employees re-engage Sad to say, but I don’t know many people who like their jobs. A recent article in the New York Times by Tony Schwartz and Christine Porath entitled “Why You Hate Work” (link below) highlights this. The article begins “The way we’re working isn’t working.” How true. The authors discuss workplace conditions that cause employees to feel disengaged, weary, and zapped of creative energies, and they propose some simple remedies. The authors found that when employers allow employees a little time during the workday to renew physically and mentally, employees re-engage, re-focus, and productivity improves. These … Continue reading →
Be a Zen Bride with Meditation – So Long, Bridezilla!
Skip the Drama – Seize the Joy It is June and the busiest wedding season is upon us. My congratulations and best wishes to all brides and grooms. Weddings should be happy and light-hearted, but from what I hear, weddings often seem to morph into a time of pressure and crisis management. Brides – and grooms, too – often feel tremendous pressure to get everything right, to be perfect, and in the process lose sight of what really matters. We need to center, keep calm, and claim all the joy that we deserve with each wedding. Causes of Wedding Stress … Continue reading →
